About IWAFA

The International Water Footprint Alliance, we believe that the efficient and sustainable use of freshwater on Earth forms a critical foundation for healthy lives and a blue future. As the global consumer population expands and stresses on our limited resources increase, Water Accounting has become crucial, requiring significant dedication, education, and efficiency improvements to rethink and ultimately transform how we use and manage water. Specifically, we have a vision to increase water efficiency for humanity, taking steps to address this situation and ensuring our progress by closely following evolving standards and developments around the world. Our vision is to share and provide clean, fresh water to all living beings, especially humans, in a measurable, traceable, and equitable manner, sharing technical and scientific benefits to sustain human existence and biodiversity.

To realize this vision, more than just IWAFA will be needed; a global community of dedicated individuals and committed organizations will be required. IWAFA has chosen as its mission to provide all stakeholders with the necessary targets, accounting systems, software, hardware, and other actionable, measurable tools and systems to ensure equitable and smart water use through joint initiatives that enable efficient and accountable, measurable, and preventive measures.

Established as a non-profit, multi-stakeholder alliance, the IWAFA Water Footprint Alliance aims to facilitate its stakeholders in launching activities, sharing all types of accounting and analysis systems for water footprint, globally published standards, and best practices in water efficiency, and developing tools and materials that will help achieve our common mission.
